(Dorine Shook turned 7-years-old on Sept. 24th, but she has been asleep since she was five. She has lethargic encephalitis, also known as sleeping sickness. She passed away on Jan. 10, 1944 at the age of nine.)

(Zamzam was sunk on Apr. 17, 1941 by the German Hilfskreuzer [auxiliary cruiser] Atlantis. In official German communications with the U.S., the ship was identified as Tamesis. The ship had not been sunk as reported. One of the two Americans mentioned, Ned Laughinghouse, had died of injuries on Apr. 29, but the other man, Francis Vicovari, survived and was later repatriated. Atlantis was sunk by HMS Devonshire on Nov. 22, 1941.)
