December 15, 1939: Front page of the Nebraska State Journal, Lincoln, Nebraska. The propaganda was in full swing, the story Raider Faces Internment or Wild Dash have the British hinting that the battleship HMS Renown and the carrier HMS Ark Royal may be en route to Montevideo. The Germans again make the claim of mustard gas.

December 16, 1939: Front page of the Bismarck Tribune, Bismarck, North Dakota. The German propaganda is now claiming that Admiral Scheer and several U-boats are en route to Montevideo. It also tell that time is running out for Admiral Graf Spee.

December 16, 1939: Front page of the Coshocton Tribune, Coshocton, Ohio.

December 16, 1939: Front page of the Hope Star, Hope, Arkansas. The story reports that the British have no less than seven warships (a battlecruiser, aircraft carrier, heavy cruiser, two light cruisers and two or three destroyers) waiting to intercept the Admiral Graf Spee off Montevideo, propaganda at it's finest. The fact that nobody had actually seen these ships did not seem to be taken into account.

December 16, 1939: Front page of the Charleroi Mail, Charleroi, Pennsylvania announces a fleet of German U-boats are reported in the waters off Montevideo. Seems both sides could play the propaganda game at a very high level.
