2. June 11, 2020 In 1961/2 my father purchased the ship's bell belonging to, the then recently decommissioned, SS Prince Charles. He bought the bell from a Belgian antique dealer in Totnes, Devon. My father understood the owner regularly visited his homeland to purchase stock. I can only assume the owner lived near the breakers at Willebroek. The bell is in excellent condition and has a wonderful and very loud tone. Interestingly I've just measured and weighed it. It's 8" tall, 8" wide and weighs 8 lbs. Kind regards, Virginia Warlow |
1. Aug. 30, 2016 My father served on HMS Prince Charles from 1940 to 1944 and was crew of LCA 401 for the attack on Omaha Beach. Three of four LCA's were lost that day and my father was awarded the DSM. My father came from Penryn in Cornwall and the captain Hercules Stafford Dennis also lived there. The photos of her before and after her Royal Naval days are superb, I only wish my father could have seen them. Thank you for such an informative site. Michael Chamberlain Tavistock, UK |
