Note the report at top left: "1,100 Survivors Picked Up In Indian Ocean - HMS Dorsetshire and HMS Cornwall"
(Both ships were sunk by aircraft from the carriers Akagi, Soryu and Hiryu. Dorsetshire lost 234 men and Cornwall lost 190 men. The British were hard hit by the Japanese carrier force, which was under the overall command of Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo, the man who attacked Pearl Harbor and Darwin, Australia. The two cruisers mentioned above were not Nagumo's only victims. On Apr. 5th in an attack on Colombo, Ceylon the Armed Merchant Cruiser HMS Hector and the destroyer HMS Tenedos were sunk. On the 9th (today) the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes the destroyer HMS Vampire and the corvette Hollyhock were sunk by Nagumo's forces.)
Also note the report in column 1: "Big Italian Cruiser Torpedoed and Sunk"
(The report was true, the cruiser Giovanni Delle Bande Nere, was sunk by HM Submarine Urge on Apr. 1, 1942 with the loss of 260 of the crew. HMS Urge, under the same commanding officer, Lt. Cdr. Edward P. Tomkinson, DSO, RN, would not have long to bask in the glory of victory. The submarine sailed from Malta on Apr. 27th bound for Alexandria, Egypt, but never arrived. The wreck was found in 2019 and form the damage it is apparent that the boat hit a mine.)
