(The Germans had announced the loss of a cruiser [unidentified] on March 13th, but the Admiralty had not officially acknowledged the loss until today. HMS Naiad was sunk by U-565 on Mar. 11, with the loss of 82 men.)

(The Australian Associated Press report was completely false. Up to this point in the war no Japanese cruisers had been sunk. The first Japanese cruiser sunk was the Mikuma, which was sunk in the Battle of Midway on June 6, 1942. The Japanese reported 8 cruisers damaged since Dec. 7, 1941, none of them were damaged heavily or were out of action.)
