Note the report in column 8: "8 Nazi Ships Sunk in Arctic"
(The Admiralty claims that two submarines [Trident and Tigris] had sunk or damaged 14 ships. The Admiralty credited Tigris with sinking five ships and damaging a sixth while crediting Trident with attacking eight, sinking three, probably sinking four others and damaging one. They do not give a date range for this, but make it sound as if this happened in one patrol. They were close to the truth. From Aug. 17 to Nov. 3, HM Submarines Tigris and Trident were operating in the Arctic. Tigris sank two ships, Haakon Jarl on Aug. 17 and Richard With on Sept. 13. Both were Norwegian ships under German control. I have no record of Tigris sinking any other ships in the Arctic.

Trident sank five ships and may have damaged a sixth. Two of these ships were carrying troops and there was a heavy loss of life, about 700 men between the two ships. Trident sank two other freighters and a submarine chaser, and may have damaged a second submarine chaser, but it is unclear to me which one it was.

December 1, 1941: Front page of The Examiner, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.

Note the headline report: "H.M.A.S. Sydney Is Presumed Lost"
(HMAS Sydney exploded and sank with all hands after a battle with the German Hilfskreuzer Kormoran on Nov. 19th. Sydney was lost with all hands. Kormoran was also sunk, but there were many survivors.)

December 1, 1941: Front page of The Sydney Sun, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Note the report in columns 1-3: "Tirpitz Reported At Large"
(Another false report credited to the columnists Pearson & Allen of the Daily Mirror in New York. They claim that President Roosevelt has a report that the German battleship Tirpitz broke out of northern waters and is en route to Japan. Tirpitz never sailed toward Japan and there were never any plans to do such. Where these two get their information from is unknown, but this is the second time in recent weeks that they have published a report that seems to be made from whole cloth.)

(Proven secret London-Moscow alliance since 1940 - Eden's attempt at denial ridiculous.)

[It must have been a slow news day in Germany, they used this same story and headline in yesterday's Völkischer Beobachter.]
