Note the report in column 3: "Huns Claim Six More Vessels Sunk"
(U-Boats were always busy sinking ships in the Atlantic, so the Germans could almost always claim something like this, and if you count the losses the right way, you can say it was true. What was true was that the overall situation in the north Atlantic was far worse than the British admitted to the public. In recent days the Germans had sunk four merchant ships from convoy HG-75 and three from other convoys, but they claimed to have sunk 14. They also sank a destroyer, the famous HMS Cossack. Cossack, under the command of Captain Philip Vian, R.N., had rescued almost 300 British and Commonwealth prisoners, all of whom had been captured from ships sunk by the German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee. One hundred and fifty-nine men went down with Cossack.)
