Note the photo of HMS Berwick a top right.
(The Admiralty account of this action was not exactly accurate. The report states that the German ship, which was the Admiral Hipper, was hit amidships and withdrew in the face of the escort. In fact, Admiral Hipper received no damage in the battle at all. However, HMS Berwick, was hit at least four times by the Admiral Hipper. There was one true statement about the battle, Admiral Hipper did withdraw when it was determined that the convoy, WS-5A, which was carrying 40,000 Empire troops for India and the Middle East, was under heavy escort. German captains were all under orders not to risk damage to their ships by engaging superior enemy forces. After breaking off action, Admiral Hipper found the freighter Jumna and sank her with gunfire and torpedoes. According to the commanding officer, Kapitän zur See Wilhelm Meisel, because of the proximity of the British escorting force, no attempt was made to rescue any of the 111 people on board Jumna, none were ever found alive.

The report also states that an enemy supply ship, Baden, was approached and the ship was scuttled. This occurred the following day, not at the same time as the battle with Admiral Hipper as the report indicates.)

Note the report in column 2: "Sink Three Submarine Home Safe After All Day Hunt"
(The report is almost correct, the Greek Papanikolis did sink two ships, not three. One was torpedoed, one was rammed.)
