On October 3, 1925 the Lexington CV-2 was launched at Fore River Shipbuilding in Quincy, Massachusetts. Lexington was the first carrier launched for the U.S. Navy, she had been converted from a battle cruiser after being laid down due to the limitations of the Washington Treaty. Lexington was lost in the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942. |
