October 3, 1936: The German battleship Scharnhorst was launched at Kriegsmarine Werft in Wilhelmshaven. Scharnhorst would terrorize the seas until she was sunk on Dec. 26, 1943 in the battle of the North Cape. 1,932 of her crew went with her to her frozen grave. |
