I'm trying to find more information on the Roeder twins (Allen Willie and Aaron Charles) from Boerne, Kendall County, Texas. They were Seamen 2C and neither survived the sinking of the Bismarck Sea. According to the newspaper, the San Antonio Light, April 15, 1945, an unnamed survivor who spoke to the twin's parents, he saw one of the boys hunting for his brother right before the ship went down. I'm writing a story about the twins for the Kendall County Genealogy journal, so if anyone has information about them or about the sinking, please email me at jhbrazil51@gmail.com .  I'd really appreciate any information.

Thank you,
Janice H. Brazil

My uncle, Lt. Cmdr John L. (Whitey) Mehlig, was lost in the ship sinking. I recently found your site and wish to thank you for the information you have compiled. I am researching my family history and am putting together a tribute to his service. My grandfather saved a number of personal letters and other documentation from eye witnesses to the events in February 1945. We are currently searching for the medals that were presented to their family home in Kokomo, IN following the war.

Sincerely,
Karl Mehlig

I was looking at the picture of the "U.S.S. Bismarck Sea unloading planes." It is listed as "location unknown." The location was Ulithi Atoll. I know because my father, Eugene Roig, took the photo. He was the ships photographer. I grew up with that picture, and the famous one of "Bosn' Magee" (the dog in the life preserver.) My father survived the sinking, but never forgot it, or his friends that he lost. Thank you for posting.
