1. May 14, 2011 I was aboard when we put her to rest. She was the Queen of the Wespac. She would not go down with out a fight. On the tow to Hi. she ran into the Towers and had to return to Yokosuka Then on the tow from Hi to Tx ran into another DDG which sank. A truly great ship to be aboard. We had a great Skipper, with an outstanding crew. We always made our commitments and pulled other ships when they could not. The skipper always found us outstanding liberty ports. So we left many ports with heavy hearts. She will always have a special spot in this old sailors heart. She was truly "SPECIAL". Thank you, Jim Slayton USN (Ret.) |
