3. June 19, 2011 Hello Yorktown CV-5 Battle of Midway Crew-members: My uncle, Jesse E. Davis (deceased), USMC served on Admiral Jack Fletcher's staff during the Battle of Midway, but I have few details. He talked about abandoning ship from the Yorktown, but little else. I have always wondered if he went to the Astoria (CA-34) when Admiral Fletcher transferred his flag? If you remember anything please let me know. Any information would be appreciated. Best regards, Richard Davis, Las Vegas, Nevada |
2. Mar. 25, 2011 Hello Crew of CV-5 Yorktown! The long awaited restoration process of VJ-1's Sikorsky JRS, 1063 has begun. Research shows this aircraft along with five Squadron mates "booked" passage on Ole' Yorky for Pearl Harbor from North Island in March of 1940. We are very interested in and remembrances or photo's no matter how small or believed insignificant of this transport.
