June 6, 1942: USS Hornet CV-8, USS Atlanta CL-51 and USS New Orleans CA-32 seen following the Battle of
Midway.



June 11, 1943: Men from VF-3 and VF-8 assembled onboard USS Hornet CV-8, Lt. Commander (later Admiral) John S. Thach, commanding officer of VF-3, is seen standing ninth from left. Ens. Daniel C. Sheedy is seen in the front row, fourth from right. The only other man identified is Bain who is standing fourth from right.

August 1, 1942: USS Hornet CV-8 and USS Long Island ACV-1 at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.



August 21, 1942: USS Hornet CV-8 and USS Atlanta CL-51 en route to Guadalcanal.



October 26, 1942: 10:08 hrs. USS Hornet CV-8 makes a high speed turn to port just before Japanese aircraft attack during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.



10:12 hrs. near miss on the starboard side of USS Hornet CV-8.



October 26, 1942: A Kate (Type 97) seen from USS Pensacola CA-24 taking fire from U.S. warships during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.



October 26, 1942: The same Kate splashing into the sea.
