HNLMS Holland P-840

March 15, 2012: HNLMS Holland P-840 seen on the River Thames approaching the old Royal Naval College Greenwich. Part of the reason for the visit is for the Dutch Navy to mark the diamond jubilee of H.M. Queen  Elizabeth by presenting on loan to the National Maritime Museum Greenwich the carved sternpost of the 17th century vessel HMS ROYAL CHARLES. Onboard is Crown Prince Willem Alexander of the House of Orange to make the presentation and handover.

This brand new just commissioned state of the art offshore patrol vessel will spend a couple of days here giving Dutch defense companies a chance to show off the innovative technical marvels and achievements of this vessel. HOLLAND is the first of class of this slightly smaller than average frigate size (sometimes referred to as corvettes) offshore patrol vessels (the others are ZEELAND P-841, FRIESLAND P-842 and GRONINGEN P-843). Built 2011 by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilders, Vlisingen, Netherlands.
