4. Nov. 24, 2014 I am looking for my dad John B. Hutchinson, he lives in the UK, I live in America, I haven't seen my dad since I was a toddler. I would love to tell him about me and to know him. I know my mother meet him in Boston, Mass, United States in 1965. He was serving on the HMS Alcide. They married later and we lived in Rowner, Gosport, Hants, England back in 1967. It would be great to find anybody who knows him or has keep in contact with him. I figure he would be in his early 70's now and fear I may never get to know him. I have set up a Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/Searching-for-John-B-Hutchinson Thank you for your help, Andrea M. Solinski Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania |
Addendum Dec. 9, 2014 My search has ended, I found him. Although I was six months too late, he passed in June. I also found I have two sisters and a brother. I am trying to respect her feelings. They have told me that they had no idea they had a sister until just before dad's passing when he told them. They were now trying to find me. May your family enjoy the holiday season and have a happy new year! All my best wishes, Andrea |
3. May 29, 2012 I'm curious as to how my late father, Capt. William R. Banks, USN Ret, came to have an ash tray from HMS Alcide. He stationed at Rothsay, Scotland from 1955 to 1957. Was the HMS Alcide also stationed there at that time? Thank you, W. Ross Banks |
Reply 1 Sept. 28, 2019 I think Captain Banks may have been given his ashtray by my Father Lieutenant Commander John Hateley Blacklock, who was Captain of Alcide during the NATO exercise when the USS Wasp was in the Atlantic. Just a thought as I have a photograph which has just come to light whilst clearing through 'stuff', of my Father with a USN Captain. Regards, Joanne Russell |
2. Apr. 6, 2011 I am seeking the name and hopefully a contact for, HMS/SM Alcide's last Commanding Officer. I was at HMS Dolphin in 1969-1971. Alcide was alongside awaiting to be towed to the trot for scrapping. I have something from the submarine that I think he may like. Thanks, Richard Broniman |
1. Nov. 12, 2008 Do you have a chronology of H.M.S. Alcide's sea trips in 1951? Was she in Halifax N.S. during the summer of 1951? Ron Lehman |
Reply 1 Sept. 22, 2011 Alcide was based in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1957 to February 1959. Her crew, Canadian and British sailors were messed on HMCS Ambrose which is a Stone Frigate in Halifax. I was drafted to the Alcide when she left from a refit in Camel Lairds, Liverpool in 1957. I stayed with her through the next four years and left when I was rated Leading Seaman in 1961. I hope this is helpful. Tony Sorge |
