My Uncle Ricky Horwell (would have been as I was not born) was the electrician on the vessel, the story goes that he tossed a coin with the other man who won and never sailed. Does anyone know if this is true and if the guy is still alive today. My uncle died with the vessel when she disappeared.

Gary Cook

This is a true story and is re-told in my book 'Subsmash - The Mysterious Disappearance of HM/s Affray', published by The History Press.

Currently working on a research project for my leaving cert in secondary school over here in Ireland. I chose the HMS Affray as my grandfather partook in a coin toss on who would be let on the ship, winning and never set sail. I am after reading on the message board of the nephew of the man who my grandfather partook in the cointoss with. I was wondering if you have any contact details? This is super exciting but also slightly heartbreaking but I would love to get in contact with him.

Thanks,
