121. Mar. 19, 2022 I was christened on the Ark royal in 1967, my dad, Reginald Stenning, was in the Navy. Unfortunately he has passed away and I'm trying to find out about the bell as it has my name on it. I'm not sure if my dad served on the Ark Royal or if he was just given permission for me to be christened on her. I would appreciate any help in finding the location of the bell. Thank you, Lynne Stenning |
120. Dec. 28, 2021 I served on Ark Royal R09 74 to 77 5G2 mess. I am looking for anyone else who was there. General Booth, Mac Mcarthy, Slinger Woods, JC Cullen. Some of the names that I remember. Cheers, Gordon Scouse Weir |
119. July 30, 2021 I am searching for any information on a Mr. Peter Bone who was stationed on the Ark Royal around the 1970s. I'm not 100 percent sure but he may have come from the Birmingham area UK. I would appreciate any help in finding him. Regards, Ronnie Orr |
118. July 29, 2021 I would dearly love to have any information of my dad who served on the Ark in the 1950ish era - he was a gunner on this ship - his name was Lewellyn John Jethro Gravenor and l believe was known as John on board the ship thankyou for reading my request and for this site. 117. Apr. 5, 2021 I was wondering if anyone served with my Uncle Michael 'Pinky' Salmon on the Ark Royal, I think this would have been in the early 1970's. He was born in 1943 and trained at HMS Ganges (in the early 1960's?). He pulled the gun carriage at the Funeral of Sir Winston Churchill (30th January 1965). He was later stationed at Portsmouth and was a Chief Petty Officer. I think that he left the Navy in the early 1980s. Many thanks, Paul Thurtle |
116. Feb. 20, 2021 I'm looking for any photos or anyone remembering my Dad who served on HMS Ark Royal I think between the years of 1955 to 1963.. I know he went to Singapore, through the Suez and that the Queen Mother visited, but again not sure of dates. I was born in 1961 and I know he bought me tin plate mechanical toys and a big teddy bear. One of his mates I remember him talking about was Colin (Jumper) Cross. My Dad's name was Ray Douglas, he ran away to join the Navy at the age of 15 after getting his next door neighbour to sign his papers. He was no angel and had his Stripes tattooed on his arm with the words 'You can't take this one'. I'm looking into my family history and would be so pleased if anyone has anything from that time (roughly) Thank you, Suzanne Douglas |
115. May 16, 2020 I am trying to find out some information about a man who served on the Ark Royal in 1960's. Name is Jan or Yan who was friends with Wilf or Bill and Doreen Loram. The ship was based in Gibraltar at the time. Thank you, Maggie Mason |
114. Apr. 12, 2020 I served on HMS Ark Royal in 1976 I would like to contact any aircraft handlers. Clifford Formby |
113. Mar. 9, 2020 I believe that my late father served on HMS Ark Royal circa 1955-1957. His name was James Robb Garner. He was Scottish, came originally from Glasgow. I wonder if there is anyone out there that may remember him. If I remember correctly he boxed for the Navy (or maybe just his ship). I do know that he met my mum (a Wren), whilst in hospital. She was what was known then as a SBO (Sick Berth Attendant), what I would call a nurse. I would love to hear from anyone that may remember him. Susan Roberts (née Garner) |
112. Feb. 15, 2020 Is there any info on Ronald Oliver, a seaman who was a radar operator in the 50's to 60? He came from Liverpool. Leisa Walker |
111. Jan. 15, 2020 I am looking for any information/pictures at all of my grandfather who served on Hms Ark Royal around 1959s/1960s. His name is James Docherty from Scotland. Thanks, Sharon Kee |
110. July 20, 2019 I served on the Ark Royal R09 as an AB from 1964 {when she was in refit} and for the following far east commission. Having only just found this site I apologise for the delay in answering the question. After some searching for the quarterdeck bell, we located it at RNAS Yeovilton Air Museum and decided to recreate a photo of me polishing it taken in 1964 on the quarterdeck in the North Sea before setting out for the far east. 109. June 7, 2019 I was wondering if there are any Royal Marine records of those who served on the Ark Royal in the 1950's. I have been told my father was a batman on board at some point but that is all I know. His name was Ronald Willey. Glyn Willey |
108. May 26, 2019 Would like some help. I'm trying to find a crew member of HMS Ark Royal. Served in late 70's. Who dated a Julie Folley from Glenholt in Plymouth. He had a friend called Steven Salter 1976? He was tall dark hair, maybe surname Dillingham? or Handley. Not sure. I be grateful for any help even. Navy wedding took place 1978 in Plymouth. Thank you, Brook Easton |
107 May 3, 2019 My mother met my father in 1965. I was told he served on the Ark Royal as Chief Petty Officer (Chef). His name I was told was either Kenneth Charles Ware, or it was Peter Kenneth Ware. My relatives told me this. I was wondering if any one can help me track him down. I was 6 when I first saw him. I have a twin called Shireen and not seen him since. I was told my mum stayed in Plymouth on the base in 1965 she was called Beatrice Mary Bates. If anyone can help I would be grateful. Yours, Jacqueline Latham |
106. Feb. 27, 2019 I am attempting to find a cousin who served on HMS Ark Royal in the early 60's his name is David Low, born in Kirkaldy Scotland in 1939. Any info would be gratfully welcomed. Thanks, Tom Smith |
105. Feb. 26, 2019 Hoping to find anyone who may remember my late father Peter Stokes who was an able seaman on RO9 anytime up to 1964. At that time he would have been in his late 20's. I'm ashamed to say I never really paid much attention to his naval career and now he's gone it's too late. I can remember his hat with the Ark Royal ribbon on though. He was stationed in Malta where he met and married my mother and had 2 children out there, me being the oldest. I've several photos of ships at sea. Aircraft carriers and alike. Pictures of shipmates, but no names. No dates and no info. All very sad really. As I'm going into my pension years I would like to at least pass on some info of his naval past to his grand and great grandchildren. A very hopeful sailor's daughter. Jane Andrews |
104. Feb. 17, 2019 Am trying to find Malcolm Argyll Scott, he was R.N.A. Mechanic in mid 60's. He was from Co. Durham. Maggie Bridges |
103. Dec. 3, 2018 Having served on the Ark Royal as a Leading Seaman 1965 / 1966, can you tell me if their is an Ark Royal Association. I am now 79 living in Carterton Oxfordshire by the RAF Brize Norton airbase. I am also in contact with Terry Rice who was serving on the Ark Royal as an AB at the time. We are both members of The Royal Yacht Association which I left before joining the Ark Royal and Terry joined after he left Ark Royal. Ron Bemmer |
102. Nov. 13, 2018 I have seen a lot of people asking about Ark's ship's bell. It is at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton. Brian Fairbotham |
101. Aug. 6, 2018 I am trying to find anybody that served with my dad James Hewitt (Jim) in 815 squadron in the 1960's. He passed away 3 years ago unfortunately. I'd just like to hear any memories or story's about him. Thanks, Myles |
100. Aug 5, 2018 Looking to make contact with anyone that served with my father, Graham Morris. I believe he worked in the engine room? Not sure what years he served, somewhere in the 50's and 60's? Graham now resides in Australia. Thor Mclean |
