7. June 4, 2015 My grandfather, Robert William Johnson (1890 to 1940), served on HMS Thunderer from 1916 to 1921 when she was withdrawn from service. I have a large photograph in an oak frame, taken in 1914 just before the outbreak of war which originally hung in the ward room. David Johnson |

5. Mar. 31, 2012 My grandfather, Edmund Thomas Hancock, was a Royal Marine on board HMS Thunderer from 1914-1920. He fought at the Battle of Jutland, can I find any more information about him? Wendy |
4. Nov. 16, 2011 My Grandfather served on HMS Thunderer from 15 June 1912 until 1 of Jan 1917 so he was also at the Battle of Jutland maybe he knew Thomas Erskine? Louise Chehdan |
3. Aug 12, 2010 James Abraham Bishop served on board HMS Thunderer as a Royal Marine gunner from 9 May 1919 to 25 July 1919 then again from 5 Sept 1919 to 17 Oct 1919. Arlene Bishop |
2. May 19, 2010 My grandfather, Thomas Erskine also served on Thunderer, in the Battle of Jutland and to the end of WW1. On a wall of the Ulster Reform Club there is a painting of the ships lined up for the Battle and Thunderer is one of them. There is information in detail in the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth, London. Daniel "Danny" McCaughan N. Ireland, U.K. (May 23, 2010: I have tracked down a bit more about the painting - it is a line of battleships, but not at Jutland - a couple of years earlier. -Danny) |
1. Apr. 25, 2009 I was wondering if you had more info on Thunderer and more pics? My grandfather served on her in 1912 and was at the Battle of Jutland and I am looking for as much info that I can find! Thanks, Laurie Allsworth |
