4. Apr. 8, 2015 I've been looking on the web and came across your page, the reason for this is my great great grandfather served on Revenge during the Battle of Jutland. I don't have much detail. He built a model of Revenge 6 foot long, started back in 30s. He passed the model on to his grandson (my father), my dad was in the Fleet Air Arm when he left the navy and was based at RNAS Culdrose, Cornwall, where dad rebuilt the ship to 9ft long, radio controlled heck of a lot of detail. Unfortunately my father died three weeks ago. Back in 2002 we were invited to a reunion in Southsea near Portsmouth, fantastic weekend, about 30 old boys that served on her back in 1940-45, old photos and good old chat, they had not seen anything like this before. 9ft model each of them showed where they were stationed on this ship. We went for a couple more years up to their 25th anniversary reunion, they all said H.M.S. Revenge was a happy ship. What I would like to ask you, as it is the 100th anniversary (Jutland) next May 2016, are there any places near to where I live that I could place the ship on static display for a few months. She is not in a glass case, much to big and heavy. Phil Harding Helston, Cornwall, U.K. |

Excellent web site, but just wondering if you had any other photo's of HMS Revenge. My Gran Father served aboard the ship, and was his last, before being moved ashore. I only have the one photo of him now. But would be interested if you had any of the crew? |
2. July 27, 2008 My father served aboard the HMS Revenge from 1943 to end of WWII.. after the war he was transferred to a ship clearing the Dutch ports of sunk ships. He was a stoker.. I am most interested in a port visit the Revenge made to Ireland in 1943 or early 44. Thanks, |
My name is Frederick Outram Banks. My interest is in securing a photograph of my father, Sidney Banks, in Royal Naval uniform. He joined the Royal Navy during the first world war as a boy sailor 1916. He served 14 years in the Royal Navy and 12 years on reserve. Three months before the start of world war two he was called up and served on hms dauntless before being released in 1941. I know that my father served some time on the Revenge during the first world war. He also served on hms Terror among others. In 1927 he was seconded to hms Renown for duty on the royal barge. Hms Renown was used for royal tours at the time. My father was on the crew of the royal barge which landed at st kilda in Melbourne Australia 1927. Their duty was to escort the duke and dutchess of york during the opening of parliament in Canberra. I and my family would dearly appreciate a photograph of our father in royal naval uniform.Any information along these lines would be held in great regard. |
