I thought you may be interested that my family have Captain Cochraine's log books (2 volumes) from 1897 to 1901 (HMS Illustrious). The log books contain several maps of Crete and Malta. Inserted in the logbooks are the certificates of appointment of Captain Cochraine.

Yours sincerely,
Mariella Cassar

My grandfather was on board HMS ILLUSTRIOUS from the 18th August 1914 to the 26th November 1915 as MAA. His name was Albert Davy Smith, born in Teignmouth, Devonshire, in 18th August 1871. Date of volunteering for the Royal Navy was 14 April 1887. Time commenced 18 August 1887, aged 16 years to the day, and signed initially for 12 years. He was demobbed finally on the 8th May 1919. Hope it helps a little!

Best wishes,
Chris Cheetham
Teignmouth, Devonshire, England.
