MONTEVIDEO - El fotógrafo germano-uruguayo Ernesto Trambauer Behrens, conocido por haber retratado en diciembre de 1939 la Batalla del Río de la Plata entre el buque alemán 'Graf Spee', dos cruceros británicos y uno neozelandés, falleció el domingo a los 89 años, informó un allegado.

"Lamentamos informar del fallecimiento de Ernesto Trambauer Behrens en la madrugada del 8 de mayo de 2011", informó el organizador de la muestra 'Los últimos días del Graf Spee', Eduardo Montemuiño, en su blog.

Nacido en Múnich, Alemania, el 16 diciembre de 1921, el fotógrafo Ernesto Trambauer salió a los 17 años "con su Leica y su padre, el arquitecto Karl Trambauer, quien había alquilado un bote a remo" para realizar un recorrido en torno al acorazado alemán 'Graf Spee' en la Bahía de Montevideo, recordó Montemuiño.

En uno de los primeros enfrentamientos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945), el 13 de diciembre de 1939, el acorazado alemán protagonizó junto a los cruceros británicos 'Exeter' y 'Ajax', y el neozelandés 'Achilles' la Batalla del Río de la Plata, que tuvo lugar frente a la costa uruguaya.

Su capitán, Hans Langsdorff, decidió abandonar el combate y dirigirse a Montevideo para reparar el buque, pero tras el desembarco de sus tripulantes y pasar el límite internacional de tres millas, echó anclas e hizo estallar el barco con explosivos.

Las fotografías de Ernesto Trambauer fueron tomadas "desde la azotea de su apartamento" en el centro de la capital uruguaya y "desde la escollera" frente a la bahía de Montevideo, había declarado su esposa, Amparo, a la AFP.

La muestra que las contiene, inaugurada en diciembre pasado en Montevideo, recorre desde entonces varias ciudades del país.
