During Communist rule the original reliefs (now seen on the memorial) were removed and replaced with the two seen here and below. After Croatian independence the originals were restored to the monument and these stored somewhere in Zagreb. It is unclear what the Communist government found offensive about the originals or why they felt these were a better replacement.
