James "Jim" Steel was born in England and served in the Royal Navy in HMS Formidable, HMS Colossus and HMS Glasgow. He later immigrated to Australia where he remained for the rest of his life. With Jim's permission a family friend, Jan Stokes, scanned the images in this collection for publication on MaritimeQuest. It is my understanding that Jim was very pleased that the photos were to be published and that many people from all over the world would be able to view them. Sadly Jim passed away on May 22, 2009 and never saw his collection published. However it now stands as a tribute to him and all those who served with him.
