D.S.O. (Distinguished Service Order) Awarded to officers of armed forces for outstanding service in actual combat during wartime. Typical awards are to commanders of ships or battalions. A second award is called a bar, and is shown by a metal strip (bar) on the ribbon.

There are three are campaign medals. These are awarded for uniformed service during specified campaigns - in this case a 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. As he served throughout WWI he had all three. The Victory Medal carried an Oak Leaf, indicating being "Mentioned in Despatches".

There are also medals for King George V's Silver Jubilee, and then two Coronation Medals - King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. After British Awards come any foreign awards, in Talbot's case the French Legion d' Honneur and the Netherlands Order of Orange Nassau, (which is not on the group, but shown below).
