I just found out through Ancestry that my Great Grandfather came to New York in 1891, on board the "City of New York" (arrival date 4 June 1891). Is there any place I can find out additional info on this entry to the U.S.? There was an no entry on "Jewishgen.com" for The "City of New York" coming into New York on that date. Can you provide any additional info if possible, or point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
John Howard

My husband's father, Patrick Barrett, was a wireless radio operator on the SS New York when it sailed for New
York City in 1920. Is there any way we could find a list of those sailors who were on that line during that time?

In response to June Barrett's query on Patrick Barrett and the SS New York - Go to www.ellisisland.org and search for Patrick Barrett. Indeed, a Patrick Barrett shows up on the New York's manifest, 22 June 1920, as a wireless operator on the ship, with four other crew members. The ship left Bristol on 7 June 1920, per the manifest.

My grandfathers first ship assignment was on the USS PLATTSBURG, just after the first world war, his name was Anthony Macaluso and eventually served for 50 years and retired as a commander. He was physician and most of his career after the second world war was in the reserves. He was the doctor that gave Joe Kennedy his physical and although I know my mother has the article somewhere in her home, no one has seen it in many years. For your interest, I have a photo of the ship’s crew on the fore deck and the manifest with the crews compliment. There are sailors sitting on the gun barrels and you can see my grandfather in the first row with the officers. I was hoping some day to find a model that I could either build or buy assembled to place under the photo of my grandfather in his 1st Lieutenants uniform. But I just wanted to add a little piece of my family’s history to what you have here.
