2. Dec. 12, 2019 My father was a survivor on the same boat as George Goldman. He was a Naval Guard gunner who was on the 20 mm gun at the stern. His name is Tom Bush. Im his oldest of 9 children. Heard bits of his story around the dinner table but reading "whistles over the water" I identified with many things the writer had to say. I would like to contact him but have been unsuccessful. I was able to talk to George Goldman on the phone in 2008. I understand he has since passed away. Thanks for any help you may be able to give. Tom Bush Jr. Pennsylvania, USA |
1. Jan. 3, 2011 My father, Henry Derksen was a signalman on the SS Patrick J Hurley. He never talked about the war, but did hear he was on a ship that was sunk in the Pacific. It was hard for him to talk about his experience. All we hear now about our military having trouble after serving in a war zone, I can understand it. I just want to say, he was proud to serve and we are all proud of our father. He has been gone for 15 years and I still miss him to this day. Thank you, Karen Derksen Magee |
