February 9, 2011: MSC Palermo seen arriving at Port Botany, Sydney, Australia. In the background you can see the old gun emplacements of the Henry Head Battery, initially established in 1895 to protect the southern access to Sydney.  The battery was abandoned in 1910 but re-established during WW2 with two 18-pounder 84mm quick firing field guns and two quick firing light 3-pounder 47mm guns.  This is one of four coastal batteries established since the early colonial days around the northern entrance to Botany Bay, gun positions also located at the Cape Banks Battery (Fort Banks), Bare Island Battery and the Malabar Battery.  All these are now abandoned and heritage listed under the control of the National Trust and/or National Parks Service.
