(This report was not true. As it turns out the only vessel that the Tongariro ever sank was the 4,404-ton tanker Socony, which was sunk in a collision on Sept. 9, 1941. No Japanese fleet submarines were lost for any reason in June of 1942.)

(HMAS Nestor was sunk by German aircraft on June 16 while acting as an escort for convoy Vigorous, which was the Alexandria to Malta convoy. Four men were lost with the ship.)

(The unidentified ship was the 3,664-ton tanker Rawleigh Warner, which was sunk by U-67 on June 23. All thirty-three men of the crew were lost in the ship.)
Also note the report at bottom right: "Girl Pilot Faints And Planes Circles Crazily Over Airport For Hour - She Revives And Is Uninjured"
