(The Associated Press report from New York claims that Berlin radio said that the Hilfskreuzer [auxiliary cruiser] Kormoran had met with a U-boat in the Atlantic and possibly transferred torpedoes to the U-boat. These ships frequently rendezvoused with supply ships, other Hilfskreuzer and U-boats to resupply and transfer prisoners. This report is not dated and does not say if the claim was of a recent meeting or something that happened much earlier. The insinuation is that Kormoran was recently in the Atlantic. Kormoran was sunk on Nov. 19, 1941 in a gun battle with the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney, which was also sunk in the action.) |
