Historical note: On this day President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which resulted in the internment of Japanese living in the U.S.A, including U.S. citizens.

The front page and several other pages were published as if the Germans had occupied Canada. Note that in column 2 there is a report titled "Jüdishes Pogrom berichtet" which indicates that everyone knew exactly what was happening to the Jews when the Nazis invaded their countries. Also note the line in the announcement [Ankündigung] at center "NO ONE WILL ACT, SPEAK, OR THINK CONTRARY TO OUR DECREES" It is signed by the Gauleiter of Winnipeg, Erich von Neurenberg. I had to look at this twice because it sounds like something the current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau would have written.

(The Germans claim to have sunk a British submarine off Norway. Only one British submarine had been sunk to date in 1942, that was HMS Tempest, which was sunk on Feb. 13 in the Mediterranean by the Italian torpedo boat Circe.)
