Note the report in columns 5-6: "Navy Hints Subs Paying Big Price"
(A reporter extrapolating a statement by President Roosevelt crediting blimps for "important successes" against U-boats. There had not been any successes by U.S. Navy blimps to date. It would take until May 6, 1945, only two days before the end of the war with Germany, for a Navy blimp to be involved in the sinking of a U-boat. A U-boat, however, scored a success against a Navy blimp. On the evening of July 18/19, 1943, U-134 shot down K-74. One man died from a shark attack, the other nine were rescued. U-134 was attacked and damaged by aircraft and had to remain surfaced and make for France. Attacked twice more before being sunk with all hands on Aug. 27. This was the only U.S. Navy blimp shot down during World War II.)
