(Wing-Commander Douglas Bader, earlier reported as missing, now thought to be a prisoner of war. Bader, Canada's legless hero, was shot down on Aug. 9, 1941 in Northern France. He bailed out and survived. While in hospital, the famous flier was paid a visit by Oberstleutnant Adolf Galland. Baden was held as a prisoner, ending up at Colditz Castle and was liberated by U.S. troops on Apr. 16, 1945. He died in Sept. 1982 of a heart attack.) |
