*Historical note: On Feb. 6, 1941 Adolf Hitler issued directive #23 entitled Guiding principles for the conduct of the war against the British war economy. In the directive Hitler admits that large air attacks against Great Britain cannot continue.

"...On the other hand, the volume of our air attacks cannot be sustained, since commitments in other theaters compel us to withdraw increasingly larger portions of the Luftwaffe from assignment against the British Isles..."

In part 5, Hitler again tells his commanders that there will be no invasion of Britain;

"Up until regrouping begins for operation "Barbarossa", air and sea attacks are to be steadily increased, if possible, not only in order to cause as much damage as possible to Britain, but also to create the impression that we still plan to invade the British Isles this year."

Operation Barbarossa was the code name for the invasion of the Soviet Union, which was always Hitler's real goal.

Also on this day, Erwin Rommel was named as commander of two German divisions called the Afrika Corps.
