Note the report in columns 4-5: "Two Ships Blown Up"
(The unnamed ship was the passenger ship Cambridge. The SS City of Rayville was the first United States merchant ship sunk due to enemy action in the Second World War. Both ships had been sunk by mines laid by a ship the Germans named Passat. That ship was a former Norwegian freighter named Storstad, which had been captured by the German Hilfskreuzer Pinguin and converted into an auxiliary minelayer.)
Also note the report in column 7: "Big Liner Distress SOS"
(The Empress of Japan made port and survived the war.)
