Note the report in column 3: "Dead-Eye Dick Sinks Submarines"
(While there is no question that Flight-Lieutenant William Weir Campbell, DFC sank the submarine Rubino on June 29, 1940, it is unclear if he sank the Argonauta the day before. In the case of Rubino, there were 4 survivors picked up by Campbell, but there were no survivors from Argonauta. Sources indicate that Argonauta could have been sunk on June 29 by a British destroyer group which included HM destroyers Dainty, Decoy, Defender, Ilex and HMAS Voyager. Because the wreck has not been found, the cause of the loss cannot be determined.

Flight-Lieutenant Campbell had to be informed of his D.F.C. by the Greeks, because on Aug. 26, 1940 he had landed his Sunderland flying boat in Greek waters because of engine trouble and had been interned by the Greek government. He was released on Nov. 1, 1940 after Italy had invaded Greece.)
