Engineer Sub-Lieutenant Alfred Solly, R.N.R.
(1896-1917)

Alfred Solly who was lost in HMPMS Queen of the North on July 20, 1917.

Alfred Solly was born on 10-2-1864 in Whitehaven Cumberland.  He married Matilda Jane Phillips in Plymouth, Devon on 13-1-1896 while serving on board the Steamer "Bay Fisher" of Barrow (Cumberland). He worked for several steamship companies and also early on worked the dredger in Maryport harbour. When he died in 1917 he left behind 5 daughters aged between 14 and 3 years old.
