Daily Event for May 28, 2011

The cargo ship Llanwren was built in West Hartlepool by W. Gray & Company for the Llanwren Steamship Company, she was 364' long and 4,297 tons gross register, launched on Apr. 24, 1906. In 1912 she was sold to Redcroft Steam Navigation Company of Cardiff and renamed Lady Ninian. On May 28, 1916 while en route from the U.S. to Italy she was sunk by SMS U-39, one man was killed. I have no other details.
