December 3, 1904 the cruiser Tennessee (ARC-10) was launched at William Cramp & Sons in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her name was changed Memphis in May of 1916 so the name could be used for the new battleship and only three months later she was destroyed by a tsunami in San Domingo Harbor, Dominican Republic. The hulk was sold for scrap.
