August 14, 1942 the cargo ship Sylvia de Larrinaga was torpedoed and sunk by the Italian submarine Reginaldo Giuliani. Other than the general details of the ship I have no other information on the sinking or the survivors. But there was one interesting story in the story. Nineteen survivors from the tanker Vimeira, which had been sunk on Aug. 11, had been picked up on the 13th by Sylvia de Larrinaga, they escaped the ship in the same boat they were plucked from the ocean in the day before. However this time they were in the boat for 29 days before they made land. Three crewmen of Sylvia de Larrinaga perished in the sinking. |
