Daily Event for December 30, 2009


Dec. 30, 1925 the cargo ship Demeterton was launched at Short Bros. in Sunderland. The second so named ship owned by the Carlton Steamship Company in Newcastle, both ships were lost to the Germans. The first Demeterton, built in 1914, was captured and sunk by SMS Möwe on Mar. 13, 1917, the second was sunk by Scharnhorst Mar. 16, 1941. Fortunately in both cases no lives were lost.
