May 23, 1943 the Japanese submarine I-17 torpedoed and sank the tanker Stanvac Manila, thirteen men on board were killed. In sinking the tanker the I-17 scored three ships sunk as the Stanvac Manila was carrying two PT boats, the PT-165 and PT-173. |
