Daily Event for November 7

November 7, 1910: The 5 masted schooner Preussen was wrecked in the English Channel. The Preussen, the largest sailing ship ever built, was rammed by the SS Brighton on Nov. 5 while in a heavy fog. Brighton managed to make port and captain Nissen on the Preussen believe he could make it to Portsmouth for repairs. However, a storm blew in and Nissen requested assistance by tugs to make it to Dover. After several lines were attached and broken the Preussen finally grounded. The great ship was eventually broken up by the sea where she lay.
