July 29, 1984 the Costa liner Columbus C scraped the rocks near a breakwater in Cadiz. The ship managed to make it into the quay but sank soon afterwards. She was raised but scrapped in 1985. The Columbus C was launched as Kungsholm III for the Swedish-America Line in 1953. She was sold to North German Lloyd and renamed Europa in 1965 and to Hapag Lloyd in 1970 retaining the name Europa. She came to the Costa Line in 1981.
