Daily Event for December 23


Dec. 23, 1896: The SS State of Georgia sailed from Danzig, Poland and was never seen again. Built in 1873 as Georgia she was renamed in Dec. 1873 because other ships bore the same name. She was 330' long and 2,490 GRT. She was purchased by the Allen line in 1891. The single screw, iron hull steamship was carrying thirty two people when she was lost.
