July 20, 1855: Great Eastern under construction at the Isle of Dogs, Millwall, London, England. Plating for the
outer section of the double bottomed hull are being put into place.

 

August 13, 1855: Great Eastern under construction.

 

November 1857: Great Eastern ready for launch, the builder, John Scott Russell is seen in the stove pipe hat.
The drag chains on the spool would later be used to launch the Lusitania at John Brown's yard.

 

The ship's designer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel seen next to the drag chains of the Great Eastern before launch.
