Captain Matthew Flinders, R.N. Monument

A monument to Captain Matthew Flinders, R.N. who played a major roll in charting the coastline of Australia during the latter years of the 18th century and early part of the 19th century, shortly after British settlement in Australia, during his circumnavigation of the Australian continent. This statue is located outside the Saint Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, in Swanston Street near the intersection of Flinders Street. There is another statue located in Sydney. A statue of Trim, Finder's cat, who accompanied him during his voyages, is also located in Sydney. (Ordinary Seacat Trim, RN Memorial)
