I have reason to believe that my g-grandmother's brother immigrated from Norway to Canada on the Umbria in the early 1890's. Does anyone know where you can get the passenger lists for the Umbria in the early 1890's?  Hopefully, if I can find out for sure that he did immigrate through Canada, I can find out when my g-grandmother came to the US.

Thank you,
Lurena Colwell

I have a small photo, taken I presume by one of my grandparents in a South African port, which shows the Umbria with soldiers aboard. As your website indicates there were just two occasions when she was used as a troopship, from Jan to May -June 1900, I can only assume the photo was taken in this period. Do you know if, while in SA she was used to transport soldiers between African ports eg Cape Town to Durban or similar?

I found your message and photos on the above message board. My grandfather was the wireless telegraphist on the RMS Umbria in 1903/4. I am in the process of collating a book about him, as he left wonderful written records of much of his life including this.

I wonder if you would allow me to use a photo of the ship. I have some postcards but I particularly like the one of the Umbria at Liverpool as he writes about it there. Also, do you have any other material about the vessel at that time?
