Daily Event for January 1, 2014

On or about January 1, 1813 the 10 gun Brig HMS Sarpedon sank off the coast of Norway. The 241 ton ship was launched on Feb. 1, 1809 and at the time of her loss was under the command of Thomas Parker. I have not been able to uncover any further details about the cause of the loss, except that the entire crew of seventy-six men were lost with her.
