Daily Event for January 24, 2012

January 24, 1965 one of the largest figures ever to grace the planet passed away. With so much written about him, there is nothing I can write here that can pay him the respect he deserves. Soldier, politician, author, historian, orator, world leader and so much more. A man so well known yet he was a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma to a large extent. While he was a giant among men he was challenged with some of the same ills faced by many lesser men, in spite of that history has been kind to him (maybe because he wrote it). There are many tales about him, but one of my favourites is the exchange he had with Lady Nancy Astor, who apparently disliked him. She once said to him "If you were my husband, I'd poison your tea" to which he replied "Madam, if you were my wife, I'd drink it". On this day we remember the life and contributions of Sir Winston Spencer Churchill.
